Energy Saving Light BulbsEnergy saving light bulbs are also known as “compact fluorescent lamps” or “CFL” for short. They fall into two groups. The first are those that you would normally associate with replacement for standard household light bulbs, these have an electronic ballast unit and starter already built into the lamp base and this allows the lamps to create light. The second are those that require to be plugged into a light fitting that contains the ballast unit or starter as the lamp does not contain one on its own. With utility costs rising and European legislation changing which will outlaw high wattage incandescent light bulbs, low energy light bulbs are becoming more popular than ever as modern incarnations can match the shapes and sizes of conventional bulbs and are even possible to buy in dimmable versions. On average low energy light bulbs use 20 percent less energy and last on average up to 15 times longer than conventional lamps. BEING GREEN NEED NOT BE UGLY We have been in the lighting industry for 25 years and can remember the first generation of “Green” low energy light bulbs. They resembled an upside down milk bottle and were as heavy as a full bottle of milk. The concern was that it might fall down, and also it looked Ugly. During the past 10 years manufacturers have tried and tried again to encourage us to “Go Green”. They have done little to encourage us by ensuring that whilst “Going Green”, we didn’t have to spend a small fortune in the process. The manufacturers marketing was exceptional, especially at pointing out that the Low Energy Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL) would indeed save us some pennies, but not quite enough pennies to make us want to spend out in the first place! So with the cost and the ascetic quality of these light bulbs being what they were, all in all most people tried one or two versions of the “Green” Light Bulbs. They were generally only placed out of view so as not to compromise the decorative value of their homes. Manufacturers have now introduced much more variety of CFL Light Bulbs and with great efficiency; they have reduced the purchase costs considerably. More over, the manufacturers have also gone a long way to make the product both dimensionally and ascetically better and pleasing to the eye.
At www.firstlightdirect.com we have invested time and resources in searching out the best of the best. We ensure that all our Light Bulbs and Fluorescent Tubes are only from the main manufacturers such as OSRAM, GE LIGHTING, PHILIPS, PROLITE and MEGAMAN. These manufacturers all work within a Quality Manufacturing System which ensures that the lamps are firstly made to the highest of standards, but also that they are safe to use and install. First Light Direct will not sell lamps from the Another positive solution with CFL Light Bulbs are that they can also be quite useful if you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). This wide range of Daylight CFL Light Bulbs have been used to treat this debilitating disorder that can for many leave them low in mood and very tired. Manufacturers are now working on the next steps in lighting technology which is based on Light Emitting Diode technology or “LED” as it is known, Many manufacturers have released into the market a range of Halogen Light Bulb replacements. Although currently these lamps have a low visual output, they also have a very low consumption of power, currently around 1-2 watts. Unlike their “CFL” relatives, there is no simple conversion factor that exists to allow us to understand what actual output we should expect in order for us to compare against a standard light bulb. However, most web sites that sell these do try to give the best opinion possible as to the output to allow the customer to make an informed choice.
These lamps have an extremely long life such. The example above shows the average life time. They are also available in different colours, such as red, green and blue. The light output is a bright white colour which some people prefer, compared to the look that standard halogen lamps give. With an input of only 2 watts, these lamps really do it’s “Bit” for energy consumption. Finally, why not simply go on line to www.firstlightdirect.com and do your bit for the environment and your pocket.
